Our residents enjoyed a Mexican Fiesta here at Warren Park last month! We went all out with decorating our dining room to welcome our residents to the event, complete with an inflatable cactus! Our residents were shocked to see that several of our staff members had ‘grown’ moustaches and were sporting sombreros to get into the party spirit! Our catering team outdid themselves once again with a mouth-watering menu. Our residents enjoyed nachos to start with guacamole, salsa and sour cream dips. We were joined last week by members of the ‘Sing Me Merseyside’ Choir. The choir performed a wide range of popular music with live accompaniment by their Founder and Musical Director, Billy, on keyboard. You may have seen the choir at public events across Merseyside as they are very popular and are made up of over 350 members in total! We were delighted to be able to open our doors and invite our families and friends into our garden for our Summer Fair on Friday 23rd July. The weather was glorious and our residents were all in good spirits. The event was started by Rob Steele who entertained us with songs from the 50s and 60s – there was plenty of clapping and foot tapping from both residents and their loved ones! The Grand National is always an event to mark in our calendar as many of our residents have fond memories of the Aintree races. After last year’s event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we went all out with our Ladies Day celebrations at Warren Park this year. Our residents began preparations in our arts and crafts session earlier in the week where several of our ladies decorated their own hats for our ‘Best Hat’ competition. Christmas is always a special time of year at Warren Park and despite the challenges the pandemic has presented us in 202, we were determined to ensure that our residents had the best experience possible with our staff being merry and bringing festive cheer each day. We've had such a busy social activities program in the run up to Christmas, it was great to see so many people at our annual Christmas Party. The afternoon started with a fantastic buffet prepared by Nicola which was followed by a live performance from Ken Eddy who entertained us all with Christmas songs. It was a great social event with over 30 attending. Before the party was over, we received a surprise visit from Santa who distributed small gifts to everybody, before joining in with the dancing! Christmas is a really busy time for all at Warren Park and we work hard to ensure that it's an enjoyable time for Residents, staff, family and friends. On Christmas Day, the serving of the Christmas dinner and meeting Residents needs is our priority. In view of this and on reflection from previous years, this year we have decided to introduce a protected mealtime for Christmas Day only. We were pleased to be visited by Steve Allday on Wednesday who brought with him a collection of smaller animals from his country learning farm, 'Allday's Farm' Many Residents, family, and friends waited eagerly in the conservatory to see which animals Steve would bring and he started by bringing in some guinea pigs and rabbits. These were followed by three African Tortoises some chickens and chinchillas to name just a few. Steve took the time to take each of the animals around those watching who wanted to handle them, some even getting to feed the guinea pigs some cucumber! Many ...
